Lipstick For Sale

My fingers slip through every strand,
Of precious pearls held in my hands.
Each perfect sphere, so smooth and sleek,
Feels hard and firm when touched to cheek.
Each pearl's lustre, grade and size,
On thread is there to mesmerise.
Such beauty, luminous and pure,
Their simple shape has great allure.
Ten tiny springs in clasp do meet,
Then placed around my neck sit neat.

She wore her pearls with charm and grace,
And felt undressed if not in place.
Tasteful and elegant and then?
"I'll not be wearing those again".
Widowed, her joie de vivre had died.
Bereft, broken, unsatisfied,
She shed her pearls just like her tears.
Cast off, buried for many years.
Now resurrected decades gone,
Eva's memory for me lives on.
